40 Years of Evolving in IT Support and Expertise

BTS Celebrates 40 Years in Information Technology

Burgess Technology Services is proud to celebrate 40 years of innovation and service in the information technology industry. Founded in 1985 with a single employee in Bath, the company has grown into a trusted regional leader, providing comprehensive IT support and expertise to clients across New England.

Originally established as a computer sales and service provider, Burgess has continually evolved alongside the fast-changing technology landscape. In 2016, the company rebranded from Burgess Computer to Burgess Technology Services to better reflect its broad range of offerings. Today, BTS delivers Managed IT Services, Network Design and Support, Help Desk Support, Cloud Services—including Managed Backup—along with Security Awareness Training, Disaster Recovery Solutions, Vulnerability Testing, PCI Compliance, software development, and project management.

Quality IT Support is a Team Effort

“Our team is what makes Burgess Technology Services exceptional,” said co-owner Mike Dorr. “Over the past 25 years, I’ve seen firsthand how the knowledge, loyalty, and dedication of our staff have been the foundation of our success.”

BTS is notable for the longevity of its team in an industry known for rapid turnover. Of its 20 full-time employees, four have been with the company for more than two decades, including co-owners Mike Dorr and Matt Rice, who purchased the business with retired partner Jeanne Stanton from founder Craig Burgess in 2006. An additional five employees have been with the company between 11 and 18 years, providing continuity and deep expertise to clients in sectors ranging from financial and medical to municipal, non-profit, education, and industrial/manufacturing.

Evolving Technology Requires Evolving Solutions

Looking back on the past decade, Rice identified the shift to cloud computing as a defining change: “From backup and file sharing to standard business operations, the move to the cloud has transformed how organizations function.” The Covid-19 pandemic further accelerated this shift, with many companies turning to BTS to quickly transition to remote work environments.

In recent years, both owners highlight artificial intelligence as the most impactful development in cybersecurity. “We’re seeing more and more of our vendor partners incorporate AI into security solutions to identify and mitigate threats,” noted Rice. Dorr added, “Endpoint protection, formerly known as antivirus, has advanced dramatically with the integration of AI.”

As BTS celebrates its 40th anniversary, the company remains committed to guiding clients through the next era of business technology, with responsive IT support and expertise.
