BATH — Burgess Computer is celebrating 30 years in the technology industry. Originally opened in 1985 as a computer sales and service company, Burgess has diversified as technology has changed over the years.

Located at 6 Oak Grove Ave., Burgess is a comprehensive technology firm providing managed IT services, network design and analysis, computer repair, help desk support, web hosting and cloud services, as well as disaster recovery solutions, vulnerability testing, PCI compliance and voice over IP telecommunications.

The team of experts at Burgess also provide custom programming, software development and project management.

Clients range from small businesses to large organizations in many sectors: Commercial, non-profit, municipal, financial, military, education, and industrial/ manufacturing throughout New England.

One of the many attributes that distinguishes Burgess is the longevity of their employees – out of 15 full-time staff members, four joined the company over 15 years ago, and four have been with the company for 10 years. In an industry famous for lightning-fast turnover, Burgess has worked to retain experienced, knowledgeable staff to better serve its customers.

Chief Financial Officer Jeanne Stanton, one of three employees who purchased the business from original owner Craig Burgess in 2006, said, “I’m proud to be part of the long history or Burgess, and look forward to taking the company into the future.”

At the forefront in the coming years, cloud computing, cyber security and advancing mobile technology are areas with accelerated and ongoing growth that will continue to impact technology services. Burgess Computer technicians are experts in each of these areas, and positioned to assist clients with such challenges. Technology has made big strides since 1985. According to co-owner and president Mike Dorr, “From our humble beginnings 30 years ago, a hardware company where the Commodore desktop computer was the newest and greatest, to a streamlined multi-tech corporation where innovation is moving at the speed of light … my, how things have changed. Today we’re a team of experienced professionals committed to technology and most of all our customers. They really are the backbone of this company.”

Burgess moved from its original location on Centre Street to the larger space in its own building nearly four years ago. The space allows each employee to perform their jobs more efficiently. The building houses a repair shop, remote support offices, programming department, administrative and meeting space. While many techs work in Bath, several spend most of their days onsite assessing, repairing and providing preventative services.

Chief Technology Officer Matt Rice, also a co-owner, is one of many Burgess IT professionals who not only love IT, but enjoy finding and creating technology solutions for customers.

“Solving business needs with technology is my passion, and having the opportunity to do so with such great clients and staff is rewarding. Technology has evolved tremendously, and keeping the company at the forefront has helped us to be successful. Here’s to another 30 years and beyond for Burgess Computer.”
